How does the climb with a UIAGM mountain guide work?
The mountain guide will arrange a meeting point with you in advance before the ascent. Usually early in the morning (5:00 – 6:00) on the day of the ascent. The ascent begins with a cable car or car ride to the place where the hike itself begins. The price of the cable car or car ride is never included in the price of the ascent and is paid on site. The hike continues by climbing under the wall. It usually involves walking along a marked or unmarked trail to the place where the climbing terrain begins.
This is followed by a short break for refreshments, putting on a climbing helmet, a harness and in winter also crampons and an ice axe. Before the start of the climb, the mountain guide will explain the rules of procedure after tying in the rope. The tour continues with climbing with a rope in the climbing terrain. The mountain guide climbs first and the rest of the team on the rope. During the climb, he gives you verbal advice and actively helps in the ascent process. The ascent includes short breaks depending on the terrain and situation. The mountain guide takes continuous photographs of the ascent.
At the top of the climb, there is a break for photos and refreshments. The length of the break depends on the situation on the summit and especially the weather. At the summit, it is advisable to change clothes and have enough refreshments. On some peaks, it is possible to untie yourself from the rope if it is safe.
After the break, the descent follows, which does not have to be led along the same route as the ascent. The mountain guide again leads the team tied to the rope in the descent. The team with the mountain guide always descends headfirst into the valley, and the mountain guide always descends last so that he can effectively secure the rest of the team on the rope.
After descending into the valley to the place where the walk on the trail follows, the team unties the rope. They pack unnecessary climbing equipment such as a helmet, harness, or crampons and ice axe into their backpacks. The tour continues by descending along the trail to the place where it started. Then, usually by cable car or car, to the meeting point.
What is included in the price of the tour?
The price of the climb includes guiding to the selected peak and the rental of helmet, harness, ice axe and crampons for each participant. The price does not include any transport costs, lift passes, excursions, meals and accommodation.
