Gerlach peak 2655m
The ascent to Gerlach Peak in the High Tatras is an unalterable experience. Most frequently, the ascent to the highest peak of Slovakia is led through Velická próba couloir followed by the descent through the Batizovská próba couloir. Those more skilled may climb through the Tatarka (Gipsy) route or Martin route.

Description
Ascent:
- 7-8 hours depends on route
Elevation gain:
- 1100 vertical meters to the summit
Difficulty:
- Not suitable for beginners
- Very good physical condition and climbing coordination required
- Ascent difficulty is I-II UIAA (Velická and Batizovská próba couloirs)
- Tatarka (Gipsy) route and Martins route is II-III UIAA (max. 2 clients)
- Difficult terrain with exposed places and climbing
- The complete ascent is executed rope
Recommended preparation tours:
Necessary equipment:
- High hiking boots (Vibram sole)
- Backpack
- Outdoor clothing
- Gloves, cap
- Food and drink 1.5 l/person
- Spare hoodie (Polartec or Merino Wool)
- magnesium to avoid cramps
- mountain insurance

- Guiding by the UIAGM Mountain Guide (the mountain guide possesses the third-party insurance and valid UIAGM membership)
- Photos from the ascent (by a mobile phone)
- Mountaineering equipment rental (helmet, harness as well as crampons and axe in winter)
